Description of Argentinean Tango Lessons for 2011 Slocan Lake Summer Dancing Camp.

All Lessons at Bosun Hall

Day One-Thursday-July 22 nd.

9.00-10.30 - Intro/Beginners Level 1: Walking Tango Style with Music; Basic 8 steps count; ¼ turns; ½ turns. Basic Technique in how to Lead and Follow

10.45-12.15 - Intermediate Level One: Review of Windmills (Molinetes) to the right and left side of the Leader; Combination of these two figures; sandwich figure; stopping (parada) figure; sweeping (barrida)figure; Gancho (hook) figure; Cambio de frente (180 degrees change of direction), adding forward sacadas to this figure; backward 8 figure into Calesita figure; colgada figure;

Day Two – Friday-July 23 rd

9.00-10.30 – Beginners Level 2 : Quick review previous Lesson. Cradle (cunita) figure; Continuous basic figure (Caminada); Forward 8 figure; Backward 8 figure.

10.45-12.15 – Intermediate Level 2: Quick review previous Lesson. New stuff: Leader steps in the left side of the Follower where he could lead a variety of steps and figures. Normally Leader steps in the right side of the Follower. Caida sobre la mujer (falling over the Lady) will be one of the new steps.

Day Three – Saturday July 24 th

9.00-10.30 - All Levels : Tango Technique. Proper extension of legs and use of chest leading; Leader and Follower connection and frame with transfer of weight from heels to toes; Intention; how to turn to the right and left 45, 90, 180, 360 degrees with upper body motion follows by legs motion; Excersices, bending Knees, etc.

Day Four – Sunday July 25 th

10.45-12.15 – Beginners/Intermediate Levels: Milonga Lesson. Basic step known as baldosa (the tile); variations; forward combinations; basic 8 count steps; forward 8 figures; backward 8 figures; if there is enough time for more figures, we’ll add them up.

1.15-2.45 – All Levels – Tango Musicality with adornments for Leaders and Followers.

2.45-4.30 – Milonga Dance with 90% Tango music.
